Lucky’s 30 day Challenge: Day One. A place for everything and everything in its place!

My Iphone screencapture of some of my 30 day items

And away we go! Last night Nicole and I had a blast preparing for this challenge (read my intro here!). There was much giggling, culling through clothes, and drinking of wine. It was kind of like playing barbies but on a grown-up scale. ‘Ken’, A.K.A my husband Andrew , wisely stayed on the other side of the house. One thing that was interesting to us was how few clothes were needed to make 30 days worth of unique outfits. You can check out the items in more detail yourself on Lucky’s Outfit Page, but essentially it involves: 3 dresses, 3 skirts, 4 jackets, 1 vest, 1 cardigan, 6 tops, 2 pants, 1 pair of shorts, 2 belts, 2 scarves, and 5 pairs of shoes. To me, a person who fantasizes about having a closet with a room of its own, that is not a lot of clothes!

Like Mother like Daughter

A place for everything and everything in its place!

I thought it would be fun to give them their own place, so I brought in a rolling rack that I normally keep in the laundry room. I’m not going to lie, the tiny type-A in me loves it! It is going to make finding my items a snap in the morning, and my daughter Calliope is already having a blast playing with my shoes: be still my beating heart!

At any rate, my poor closet is not going to get much use for the next month with the exception of my underwear drawer .

Anyway, without further ado, The OOTD (‘Outfit of the Day’ for you non fashion blog obsessed folks):

Outfit Deets: Top-XXI, Skirt-Thakoon Target Go International, Belt-XXI, Shoes-Target, Nursing necklace: me made!

Working on my soon-to-be mad posing skills

Now that there’s pictures, how did the first day go?

Welp, when I put this baby on and came out into the kitchen my husband remarked, “Aren’t you starting your challenge today?” Once I replied that I had and that this was the first outfit he said, “Oh, I thought you would look different, but this seems like something you would normally wear.” <—–TADA! I couldn’t have said it better myself! I feel like Lucky broke me in easy because this is definitely something I would come up with and wear. The Thakoon Target skirt in particular, gets a ton of normal play in my wardrobe. Maybe not the most exciting or inventive outfit for me, but it is comfortable. To be fair, the original top is supposed to be a 3/4 sleeve striped boatneck, but 1. this is Florida and its hot. 2. Boatneck= impossible to nurse in. As an actively BFing Momma with a child who likes to snack, easy access is key! As you will see later on in the challenge, I had to swap a shift dress for something a little more boob-airy (BFing girls need air! ;D) even though I actually have a beautiful shift in my closet.

First day on a scale of 1-10. Ease of wear: 9, Excitement:4.

How ’bout you, What would you give my first day? Do you think it was cheating to switch out the boatneck for something more boring? And most importantly, how are my posing skills?

See ya tomorrow!

A Month of Outfits: Lucky’s 30 Day Challenge

Hello! My name is Angelyn, and I love fashion. Maybe a little too much!

Growing up my favorite game to play was dress-up, and I could/would play this game for hours. ‘Fashion’ is a great diversion when you are 8, not so much when you are 30 and have a young child and husband! I’m a little ashamed to admit it, but back before I was a Stay-at-home-Mom (SAHM), I can recall many a day where I was *almost* late for work because I couldn’t commit on what to wear. Uh-oh! This has made me feel more than a little shallow and vain on occasion, and has added unneeded stress into my life, but at the same time, I feel like I can’t help myself. For better or worse, having a sense of style and looking well put together is important to me!

my lil Opie and I!

Now I’m a mom, and having my daughter has changed my priorities and the time and energy I invest in how I look a lot! These days I rarely have a strict time when I have to be dressed, and lets be honest, with a 13 month old some days ‘dressing’ doesn’t even happen… and I’m ok with that! I can deal with forgoing make-up most of the time, I don’t really mind rocking the dirty hair look, and am more than willing to modify my wardrobe to be breastfeeding friendly. BUT I am not ready to completely give up looking stylish. Mom’s should be allowed to feel fabulous too! However, occupying a lil one while trying on 20 different outfits before landing on the perfect one isn’t an option. And here’s where Lucky’s 30 Day Challenge comes in! Yay!

What is the Lucky’s 30 Day Challenge ? It’s a month of outfits utilizing only a few staple items, and where Lucky has done all the work for you. All you have to do is look at the picture for the day, put on the corresponding items, and voila! you are dressed and looking stylin..at least in theory! In my (and Nico, my dear friend and fellow month of outfits partner-in-crime’s) case, I decided not to go shopping to try to replicate the staple pieces. I am going to use stuff I already have. Hooray for being thrifty! I am quite proud of my wardrobe, but fudging is going to be inevitable, and it could (read: will) potentially upset the delicate balance of Lucky’s styling…and lead to some possibly hilarious and truly tragic fashion disasters- Oh my!

The benefit of this little exercise is obvious to me: It should save me time, help me mix my own clothes in unexpected ways, and be a fun blogging adventure. Occasionally, (hopefully only occasionally), it should also be good for a downgrading of my aforementioned vanity- in these serious times, I could probably use a bit of that. You know because there is more to life than fashion, probably ;D

So there you go, 30 days of outfits! I hope that you will come along for the ride!

Got my game face on and ready to go!
