This is day thirteen of a series I’m doing that features a month of outfits. Read my intro here, find out about the Challenge here, and Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7, Day 8, Day 9, Day 10, Day 11, and Day 12.
Hello There! How is your day going?
Me, I’m just plugging along. I’m actually feeling a bit unproductive these days. Maybe it’s the rapidly multiplying toys and the empty tupperware shelf with the contents splayed out all over the floor, or perhaps its the crazy year-round shedding from my puppies, but I feel like I live in a badly organized flea market in need of dusting. Ew!
I try to spend some time each day picking it all up, but I’m losing the battle, and wonder if I should even bother since 5 minutes later it is just going to get put back on the floor. If any of you have tips for teaching a 13 month old how to pick up 1. You should tell me how, and 2. You should write a book and make millions. For reals.
Anyway, “Luckily” (ha ha), this 30 Day Challenge is wonderfully uncluttered. I’ve really enjoyed having a organized closet, and always knowing (for better or for worse) exactly what I’m going to wear.
Let’s look at Day 13 shall we:
Today marks a bit of a milestone. The introduction of the moto jacket means that every clothing item used in the challenge has now been worn at least once. Craziness! Some items, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, get a lot more play than others. Today’s outfit feels like a little bit of a throwaway to me. Almost like Lucky got tired of coming up with outfits and overusing the vest and this is what happened.
This madras skirt has now been worn twice, and I have to tell you that as much as I think I love this skirt, I’m not really enjoying wearing it during this month of outfits. In fact, today I almost cheated and switched it out with the leather pencil skirt (which, inexplicably, only gets worn twice all month). Gasp! I’m not sure what’s going on with me. I thought that this madras skirt and I had something special and longstanding, but now I think we might just be having a fling.
Just between you and me, I’ve been feeling a little ..meh in it. I feel especially bad about this new-found chilliness towards it considering all the compliments we got after Day 6. Seriously, what’s my problem?!
I’m wondering if the photos are part of the problem. Pictures are a hard thing sometimes because it ruins the idealized picture in your mind about how clothes/an outfit looks on you. Looking at the photos from today and Day 6, I feel like maybe this skirt hits me at a not-so-great place on my leg. I also think that maybe when compared to some of the other looks during this month it is presenting itself as a tad bit on the juvenile side of things. All I know is I’m looking forward to cooler temps when I can wear this skirt out with a nice pair of opaque tights and boots.
To be fair, I don’t know if an open cropped jacket is really all that good a look with this skirt. Which is also a shame for the jacket, because this lil terry cloth jacket is smokin in the right context (I have some strong hopes that Day 23 or 30 will show you what I mean).
On to the cuff!
This is my favorite part of today’s outfit. Those of you that have known me 10+ years might have seen it before. I wore the antennae off of it back ‘in the day’, but in more recent years I have sadly forgotten about it..that is until now. Such a pretty piece, it is both hard and soft. Love, love love.
Wait..a…minute! Today marks another wonderful milestone:
How awesome is that?!!! And how about her adorable vintage dress from 3 Ring Circus? So sweet it hurts! Actually, I think I’m gonna end things here, because now all I’m seeing is Calliope cuteness.
Day 13 on a scale of 1-10: Ease of Wear-5. Personal Excitement- 4. Calliope’s pigtails- 10.
Thoughts, Comments, Criticisms? What are your honest opinions on the madras? Do you agree with me that today’s outfit feels a little meh today? You likey the cuff? And how do you feel about baby hairstyles? And any tips for keeping toys picked up?

I see how you would feel a bit “meh” about the outfit, but don’t think it is the skirt. The shape and weight of the jacket seem off for the outfit to me. There is a hint of your cute little shape in the sixth photo that leads me to believe the outfit would have held up better without the jacket. Something a little more fitted may have turned it around for you?
