Lucky’s 30 Day Challenge. Day 17. Flying Solo.

I'll Fly Away

This is day seventeen of a series I’m doing that features a month of outfits. Read my intro here, find out about the Challenge here, and Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7, Day 8, Day 9, Day 10, Day 11, Day 12, Day 13, Day 14, Day 15, and Day 16.

Hey everyone!

Today’s blog marks Day 17 of the challenge, Day 2 of being a single parent while Andrew is out of town, and Day 21 is when I am actually getting around to writing it. Ha, did that just make sense to anyone other than me?! It reminds me of the old curse, ‘May you live in interesting times’. These are interesting times that is for certain. All politics and economic blah blahs aside, today is also Day 1 of Calliope walking around in shoes (pink rain boots to be specific), and oh my is it interesting and adorable (at least to me!)! I think today we shall reveal her outfit first:

Apparently garbanzo beans are the next big toy

I'm walking and not getting stuff on my feet- magic!

Chasing puppies

On Opie: Dress- Vintage-ish. Boots- IPlay and gift from Marmee. Necklace- Tweet Baby Designs

Diaper shot and dirty feet! Diaper- Grovia.

Looking mighty fine, if I do say so! I love this little outfit of hers, and she was having the best time exploring our backyard for the first time. Her outfit is colorful and fun just like her!

I’m saddened to say that my OOTD is not nearly as interesting, but here we go:

Lucky wants me to wear a jacket AND a vest? No way!

Eshewed jacket in favor of vest.

The junk in the trunk view.

Deets: Top and Belt- XXI. Pants- Gap. Vest- Guess. Shoes- Vince Camuto. Necklace- 'Me' made.

So Day 17 didn’t exactly excite me, but it was perfect for what I needed today, which was something easy to clean and pack in. Before I could leave town I had to clean my new-to-me oven, strip and seal our bathroom floor (something that has been waiting a whole year to get done!), install FaceTime on my MacBook so we could talk to ‘Dada’ while he was gone, and of course wash diapers and pack! My dog Mahjong does not do well when Andrew is gone and could instantly tell something was up and preceded to whine at me the whole day (that first scream picture is my response to that) until we all got in to my trusty Ford Escape around 4:00. AHHHHHH! At one point I felt like all three of them were in cahoots to try to get me to loose my mind permanently. But I did not, and once we left town I let out a sigh of relief.

Anyway, this outfit (minus the shoes and with the cuffs rolled) was perfect sealing tile attire, but once we got into Melbourne and my parents offered to take Calliope and I out to dinner, I’ll admit that I swapped out the pants for the pencil skirt, and the shoes for the fringed sandals because I didn’t feel dinner worthy wearing the pants- sue me!

I think with different pants I might be more excited about the vest and bright top, but right now I feel like it skews too teenager. Maybe at one time in my life I would have adored this, but right now it’s just not making the cut. It really bothers me that the pants are too long! Usually I wear them with a certain pair of heels that make their length a non-issue, but the peep toe oxfords aren’t that pair, and it just looks sloppy to me. Since this is the second time that these pants have left me high and dry in an outfit during this challenge, I’m really starting to question their place in my wardrobe. Uh oh!

On the plus side, the ensemble doesn’t look exactly bad, and hey, that body had a baby in it a little over a year ago, so I’m giving myself points for that.

Day 17 on a scale of 1-10: Ease of wear- 6. Personal excitement factor- 2  Practicality for working in- 8.

How bout you birds: Should I send the jeans packing? What do you think would save this outfit?

  1. I think it’s a really cute outfit! Looks professional. I like the pants but they are a tad long…

    And Opie’s rainboots are adorable.
