Tonight we are hosting a going away party for two of our favorite people: Jay and Erin, who are moving to Chicago. I am so excited for the new opportunities and experiences they will have living in a new place, but I am sure gonna miss them (at least its a great excuse to visit one of my favourite cities!). Anyway, although I am busy trying to make the house party-tastic, I thought I’d show you my latest crafty endeavor, Handmade Kinchaku (Bento bag)! I found the free pattern here and about an hour or so of me playing with fabric, notions, and yarn, Viola:

The Details: The fabric is some japanese kawaii fabric I bought over a year ago on ETSY (the pattern called for a 11×22 piece, but since I had so little fabric and wanted the wood grain going vertical I went with 10×20) which I bought at the same time as the decorative fabric tape. The cord I knitted by quickly icording some yarn from my stash while watching Enterprise with Drew (let me tell ya, It felt SO good to knit- its been awhile!) , and the wooden beads I had leftover from some jewelry project Nicole and I did a few years back. Anyway, SO easy and very gratifiying. I finished it at about 12:00 last night and was probably annoyingly excited about it (Sorry Andrew!)
So now my lunches have a new home! Yay for crafts!
In other news, I listened to a lecture at school from our own UCF Washington Educational Lobbyist, and he (Greg) was so cool! I really think that lobbying for something noble like education (versus Big Oil, Drugs, or vices ala Thank You for Smoking) has got to be about the best job in the world. Its kind of what I do at the bar every day, except that I am not asking for money for myself
I just may have found a new professional goal…maybe.
